The Greater Salem Area Foundation and Mission Salem

are please to offer a Vocational Scholarship Program

CONGRATULATIONS to our 2020 Scholarship Recipients!

The Greater Salem Area Foundation/Mission Salem scholarship is a new addition for 2020 Salem High School students and non traditional students looking to further their education through vocational training. Applicants will be judged on their potential and not necessarily from their academic ratings though high school.

Interested applicants should have an interest in obtaining a degree in any field which lends itself to a two year course or less. Among topics, which this scholarship might be available are but not limited to include clinical and dental technicians, welding, electrical training, HVAC, hair styling, culinary arts, truck driving, nursing, auto mechanics, body work and other areas related to applicable training which would allow a student to find employment within the area upon graduation. 

Scholarship winners will be required to be available for 20 hours of volunteer charitable assistance to such programs like but not necessarily limited to Mission Salem. 

Scholarships will be available for up to $500 per semester and renewable for subsequent semesters for another $500. to be applied toward tuition books or equipment needed to complete the on site training. Up to three separate scholarships will be available to students for the 2020-21 school year. 

Students failing to apply for the second semester of the scholarship will not receive further assistance. Assistance will be paid by check to the applicants but will be written directly to the college.  Students or non-traditional individuals should live within the Salem Il High School District to be eligible for this assistance.

Deadline for applications has been set for April 30 for enrollment in the Fall semester of 2020 at Kaskaskia College.

Students should supply a cover letter outlining their goals as well as their need for the funding. Letters of reference from teachers, counselors or employers will be considered.
